Boat Registration

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Police Division Requires The Following For Boat Registration When Purchasing From An Individual:

• Bill of Sale with Year, Make, Model, Length, Hull Identification Number, Make of Motor, Motor Serial Number and Motor Horsepower
• Current Boat Registration from Previous Owner
• Current Boat Registration and Title if Purchased out of State
• Current Driver's License or ID

There is a 72 hour grace period for registration of a new boat. If purchasing a used boat with a current registration within the State of Alabama, you have (15) days to transfer your name. If you purchase a used boat with an expired registration, you must register before the boat is used. There is not a grace period on a used boat with an expired registration.

CHAIN OF OWNERSHIP MUST BE PROVIDED IF VESSEL WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM REGISTERED OWNER
